Re-Branded Cube
I am always excited to hear that I will get to use Photoshop when I am going to do a project. I am not very proficient in using any Adobe program, but I want to learn as much as I can when dealing with artist software! It is a new medium that is almost unknown to me. The more time I get exposed to using Photoshop, the more I become better at using the program.
I started my project with this Toppers pizza box. There is one thing that I know I wanted on this box. I wanted that cow. The cow looks so silly and out of place. It stands out the most from that pizza box.
Since I am not familiar with using Photoshop, I had to have my classmates help me learn the software. Without them, this assignment would of been more challenging.
The first color I decided to use was yellow (for the cheese). Then I realized that I needed to find a color that would go well with yellow. It was hard for me to pick a choice because so many color would stand out with the black and gray surrounding it. I chose the color blue because blue is an engaging color and it gives yellow a bit more power to it.
The most challenging part was when I had to place shapes that went over to the next adjacent side of the cube. It made me think more of placement in a 3rd dimension.
One thing that I would change is the amount of blue on my cube. I think my composition would have better balance if I distributed more blue around the cube.

Personal Color Palette:
Summer Starter
This color set introduces the fresh first colors of the start of a new summer. This palette contains the warmth of the summer day and soft colors that bring ease to the eye. The points of the tip of each grass leaf bends as bare feet walk fields experiencing the sensation of the earth's gentle touch. Across the breeze of the grass field comes a forest. A forest that nurtures animals of many types. The animals call this place their home. The trees bring a sense of great awe as one could look up and get lost in the long interweaving branches that seem to go on forever. The sun pierces through the individual tree leaves and illuminates the ground. It creates a glow to light up pathways for creatures to explore. Vehicles, time to time, would venture through this peaceful place. The wheels kick up dirt and gravel in the air. Anything near this gravel road becomes unclear, as all one can see is a heavy mist of smokey chalk when the vehicles leave the enchanted forest and out towards the never ending grassy prairie.

- the main difference between purple and violet is that violet has more of a blue color palette
Blue
- has the lowest wavelength in all of the colors
- the "green screen" for digitally getting backgrounds use to be a "blue screen"
- blue advertisements are meant to keep you awake and engaged
Gray
- politics do not use gray because the color is so neutral that it appears that it will not pick a side to fight for
- it is a great background color
- the usage of the color gray with dark colors gives it a deep mysterious look

Logo Colors
Business Cards
Making my logo was the fastest part in my logo process. The hardest part was to actually come up with ideas for my logo. I needed to make the logo that explained who I was. None of my ideas were actually sticking. I was struggling with finding my core values. The only thing that I could think of was my brothers. Throughout most of my life, I was raised with my two brothers. We spent a lot of time together. My most fun memories were with them. So, I based my logo on the number 3.
LINE ASSIGNMENT
The easiest part for this project was outlining the initial shape. The hardest part was actually creating the depth and space inside the shape.
What helped me make my work was a lot of practice with different kinds of lines and pick out which ideas I liked best. I also took pictures on my phone of different examples I found in everyday life. (i.e. buildings, garbage cans, street walkways, an antenna) I noticed I was taking longer to draw lines by making measurements with a ruler. I was drawing faster when I did not use a ruler. It allowed me to get smoother lines. Drawing smaller lines were harder than the big ones because the small lines had to be more precise. Problems I had were keeping the Illustration board clean. If there was too much ink somewhere, it would smear. The ink would also come off the ruler to make more smears on the illustration board. What I did to keep the board clean was use napkins to "dab" off the ink and wipe off the ruler. |
SHAPE TRANSFORMATION
I had a lot of trouble with this assignment. My first attempt looked like no effort was put in it.
I was confused on what to do.
I think what made the project hard was trying to make something based of examples in the instructions.
After I saw more examples from my classmates, I finally knew what to do.
I wanted to make a "ball-like" object move around on my piece.
I also wanted both my shapes look like different textures so they are easy to pick apart.
One of the hardest parts when I was making this piece was drawing the circles.
I had to actually go on "YouTube" and search "how to draw a circle."

Pattern Saturation
I enjoyed doing the pattern saturation assignment. It made me apply different drawing styles all over my composition. I created constant movement through the piece. I also varied the types of patterns through separate parts by placing complicated patterns next to simple patterns. By doing that, it creates balance. There is no specific spot where any patterns are too strong. My favorite part is the small "ball pit" in the center. It is the most detailed, but it is placed back in space so it does not draw too much attention. I had a bit of trouble with coloring on this black paper with a metallic gold color pencil. In order for a "true" gold to be placed on the paper. The pencil had to be pushed down really hard. This would cause fatigue in my hand and I would have to take many breaks from drawing to relax my hand.

Silk Screen Texture Books
Finding textures I wanted for my book was actually harder than I thought it would be. When we placed our designs on the paper, there were so many textures that were created. There were many amazing textures I got from layering different colored inks. My favorite textures were the colors that were creating transparencies. I believe that by making my texture book, I now have a reference to different textures I can use in later pieces.
Nature and Shape
I really enjoyed doing the line work in this assignment. This assignment really made me think of the many applications of shapes towards everyday objects. I never concentrated on works that would have me make so many abstract shapes before, so I found that making my different compositions was challenging. I had to really look at the tiny features that made objects unique. My pieces contained much repetition and it also emphasized rhythm. The thing that I struggled with the most in this assignment was using the hard card-stock paper with the black Sharpie permanent markers. The markers' tips would dry out extremely fast on this type of paper. Half way into this assignment, i change from black Sharpies to using black India ink with small stylists and brushes.

Balancing Act
Stability
Individuality
This project taught me more about placement. I had to draw 4 squares and 1 circle in each one of the pieces. I had to demonstrate that I could draw and understand the concepts of stability, dominance, individuality, and opposition. This assignment challenged me because I wanted to put more on my paper. I did not want to use just 4 squares and 1 circle. This project made me learn that concepts can still be applied even though the designs were simplistic.
